SP2 killed my HP CD-writer 8210i

CD-WRITER returns write-protected
Hi, When I recently added a DVD writer to my setup I had to use IDE3 as others were full but although BIOS detects and lists the NEC1300A it says no compatible drive found so are not present in operating systems and no "new hardware detected" in XP or W98se. BIOS RAID port enabled in BIOS.

DVD drive not recognized
Seeing the drive detected in the SATA device list at boot up and any particular OS seeing it after. partitioned? Do I have to join up the partitions, DVD writer, holds just a bit more than CDR. Then again something like Norton Ghost / Drive Image to an other disk. Ghost also does compressed backups to CDR.
